Basic Electronics

Course Description:

This is a 1 credit class that students may take for their third science. It is designed to give students a fun and unique perspective on something different. Students will learn the fundamentals of soldering, hands-on projects, and basic DC circuit analysis.

Course Goals:

To understand the operations of electronic equipment, perform hands-on experiments, and become familiar with special tools and equipment used in the field of electronics. Prepare students for the Advanced Electronics course. Prepare students to take the Utah state CTE skill certification exam. The following areas of study will be examined.

  • Safe work practices
  • Shop tools and soldering.
  • Test equipment.
  • Passive electronic components.
  • Transformers and Induction.
  • Capacitors.
  • Basic electronic theory.
  • Professional development.

Course Directives:

Students gain knowledge through a combination of discussion and interactive computer aided instruction. Many projects and kits will also be assembled by the students to enhance their overall learning experience.
