Course Description:
This course is designed to give students direct experience setting up and repairing personal computers.
Course Goals:
To prepare students with skills needed in the work force. Understand the operation of computer maintenance. Perform hands on experiments. Become familiar with industry tools. Prepare students for the nationally recognized A+ service technician exam. Instruction will include the following:
- Safe work practices.
- Installation, configuration and upgrading.
- Diagnosing and troubleshooting.
- Preventive maintenance.
- Motherboards, processors, and memory.
- Printers.
- Basic networking.
Course Directives:
This course uses a combination of interactive computer aided instruction as well as direct experience assembling computer systems. The students gain extensive training with a variety of P.C. based hardware architectures and operating systems software, including DOS and Windows. Preparation for A+ certification is incorporated into the course curriculum, which addresses the two separate parts of the actual exam. The first is the Core Hardware exam, and the second is the Operating Systems Technologies exam. The course is developed around CompTIAŽ 2003 objectives.
